2026 London Plan Campaign

Have your say about Gypsy and Traveller needs in London

We’re campaigning to make sure the Mayor’s London Plan meets the needs of London’s Gypsies and Travellers.

The Plan is the Mayor’s official “master strategy” for London growth, home-building and environmental protection over the coming decades. It includes how local councils should meet the needs of Gypsies, Travellers and Travelling Showpeople. Legally, London Boroughs must consider it in their decision-making and make sure that their local plans conform with the London Plan.

Following years of community members speaking up and joint campaigning with others to keep Gypsy and Traveller housing rights on the agenda, there are some positive new additions. Some people will oppose these steps forward, so it’s important that the Mayor’s team hear from London’s Gypsy and Traveller communities to know how important they are.

The consultation period for the draft Plan ends at 5pm, Thursday 15th October. Gypsies and Travellers still have chance to have their say by taking part in our Postcard Campaign and our Email Campaign.

Postcard campaign – for London’s Gypsies and Travellers

One way that Gypsies and Travellers can have their say on the draft Plan is to join our postcard campaign calling on the Mayor to keep minimum pitch targets and protect travelling culture. We have been visiting sites and working with community activists to get people signed up.

The deadline to get postcards back to us is Friday 9th October. We’ll be hand delivering these postcards to City Hall on Wednesday 14th October at 11am. Join us!

Email campaign – for allies

If you are an ally, you can stand with London’s Gypsies and Travellers by taking part in our email campaign. Tell the Mayor that his plan is only sound if he keeps minimum pitch targets and takes steps to protect travelling culture. The deadline is 5pm on Thursday 15th October.

To send an email, go to our email campaign page.

LGT’s response to the consultation

LGT will be submitting its formal organisational response to the consultation. Our campaign is focusing on pitch targets and protections for people living roadside. But the draft London Plan covers other areas that will also affect London’s Gypsies and Travellers. To find out more and share your opinion on what we should include:

  • contact Nancy on 07432 465463 or
  • come to a drop-in session at our offices on Tuesday 6th October 3-5pm.
