We are looking for a passionate and committed individual to work with our team and contribute to an exciting project working alongside Gypsy and Traveller communities in Bromley.
Our Bromley Community Project aims to bring together Gypsy and Traveller residents in Bromley across council sites, private sites and those living in housing, so that the community is more recognised and supported by the local council, local services and other organisations, and builds a stronger collective voice.
The role involves working alongside LGT’s Community Development Worker and other members of the Community Development Team, on a self-employed basis. The role involves reaching out to Gypsy and Traveller residents across Bromley and supporting them in creating a constituted group within the borough to support residents. This would involve having conversations about their aspirations for the community, organising regular meeting and events, researching what type of community-led organisation would be preferred, and building bridges with the local authority, services and other groups in the borough.

Contract type: Consultancy/Self-employed
Hours: 2 days per week for a period of 6 months
Rate : £225 to £250 per day, Depending on experience and qualification
Location : London Borough of Bromley
Role and responsibilities
- To develop relationships and trust through outreach to Gypsy and Traveller families in Bromley living on sites, housing, and roadside camps
- To facilitate community conversations to document needs and aspirations and identify local opportunities and provision
- To facilitate relationships between Gypsy and Traveller communities in Bromley and local organisations and service providers when needed.
- To provide admin support and facilitation to an advisory group consisting of Gypsy and Traveller residents in Bromley, to explore together options for establishing a constituted community group
- To undertake research within the borough to how best a constituted group could work for the community.
- To coordinate the formal registration of this constituted group with relevant bodies
- To contribute to the project plan, keep records of the work and take part in evaluation
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Essential
- Experience and knowledge of the issues facing Gypsy and Traveller communities
- Commitment to equality and challenging discrimination
- Ability to build positive relationships and trust with community members
- Ability to engage Gypsy and Traveller residents in meetings and activities
- Good communication skills with different audiences
- Ability to build useful and positive relationships with a wide range of agencies, service providers and local politicians
- Ability to carry out research and present it in an accessible way
- Ability to keep accessible records of your work
Desirable
- Previous experience of community outreach work
- Experience in planning and delivering a project
